Converted in 2017

Grove Barn is a small, independently run bed and breakfast in the peaceful village of Denton, on the Norfolk–Suffolk border. It's run by Steph and Alan, who have been welcoming guests here since 2018.

They bought Grove Barn in 2017 and spent the following year converting the barn into the B&B you see today, working with local tradespeople to create three comfortable en-suite guest rooms while retaining the character of the original building. Grove Barn opened its doors to guests in 2018.

Meet Steph & Alan.

For Steph and Alan, running Grove Barn has always been about more than providing somewhere to sleep. They genuinely enjoy meeting the people who come through the door, hearing their stories and helping them make the most of their time in this part of Norfolk and Suffolk.

Whether it's recommending somewhere for dinner, suggesting a countryside walk or helping guests decide where to spend the day, their knowledge of the local area is a big part of the Grove Barn experience.

It's a small B&B, and that's very much the point. With just three rooms, Steph and Alan can offer the kind of personal welcome that's difficult to find in a larger hotel.

Breakfast at Grove Barn

Breakfast at Grove Barn.

Breakfast is an important part of a stay at Grove Barn, and Steph takes great pride in making sure guests start the day properly.

From a traditional cooked breakfast to lighter continental choices, fresh fruit and cereals, there's plenty to choose from, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options available too.

Where possible, ingredients are sourced locally, including Norfolk sausages and cured bacon from Pepperells and free-range eggs from The Broken Egg Cafe.

Breakfast is served in the bright and relaxed breakfast room and is included with every stay.

As seen on Four in a Bed

Grove Barn even had its moment on television when Steph and Alan took part in Channel 4's Four in a Bed. Their episode first aired in September 2019, putting Grove Barn – and Steph and Alan's famously high standards – in front of viewers across the country.

It was a memorable experience and has become a fun part of Grove Barn's story.

A proper countryside B&B.

Grove Barn is deliberately small and personal: three en-suite rooms, peaceful countryside and hosts who are actually here to welcome you.

The setting is rural and quiet, but Harleston and Bungay are both only a short drive away, while the surrounding Waveney Valley, Norfolk Broads, Suffolk coast and miles of local countryside give guests plenty to explore.

Some guests come for a quiet night away, others use Grove Barn as a base for exploring Norfolk and Suffolk – and plenty simply enjoy slowing down for a few days. Whatever brings you here, Steph and Alan want Grove Barn to feel relaxed, welcoming and easy from the moment you arrive.
